Abstract
Soil is a self-organized system in time and space; it is the homeland where we are born and raised, and the basis of economic life and human development. It serves as an input for industrial development, supports buildings, and facilitates human activities. It nourishes crops and is the basis of agricultural profitability, forming an essential part of national development as a means of sustaining agriculture, industrial infrastructure, transportation, and trade. Furthermore, it positively impacts the environment by acting as a sponge to retain water and pollutants. In that sense, it is crucial to understand its functions and importance. This review seeks to increase knowledge about soil, especially in Latin America and the Caribbean, to strengthen awareness and care for this vital resource.

("Suelo" OR "Epipedón" OR "Superficie") AND ("Importancia" OR "Relevancia" OR "Valor" OR "Trascendencia") AND ("Funciones" OR "Beneficios" OR "Servicios" OR "Servicios Ecosistémicos") AND NOT ("suelo pélvico").
("Soil" OR "Epipedon" OR "Surface") AND ("Importance" OR "Relevance" OR "Value" OR "Transcendence") AND ("Functions" OR "Benefits" OR "Services" OR "Ecosystem Services") AND NOT ("pelvic floor").
